7 Things To Know When You’re Preparing For Your Dental Implant Surgery
Dental implants in Richmond have fast become the chosen treatment of many of our patients to replace their missing teeth and to restore the aesthetics and functionality of their smile. Dental implants are placed into the jaw bone during a relatively short period of surgery and once your surgery has been scheduled then there’s a few guidelines which we advise all patients to follow.
Guidelines for all patients
- Prior to dental implant surgery it’s important that anything which could pose a risk of infection is removed as well as any items which could get in the way of surgery. This means removing all make up as well as removing any partial or full sets of dentures. In addition we ask that you refrain from wearing jewellery which includes ear, facial, and tongue piercings.
- You should never undergo surgery if you’re feeling under the weather. For this reason if you’re suffering from a cold, fever, sore throat, or an upset stomach, then please notify the clinic.
- Medications – If you’re taking any prescribed and/or over the counter medicines then please tell Dr. Harmit Kalsi before the due date of your surgery. You may want to check with your doctor as well.
- For patients who are undergoing conscious sedation – Don’t eat or drink anything (including water) for six hours before the scheduled time of your surgery.
- Bring someone with you – If you’re having IV sedation then you’re likely to feel groggy afterwards so please bring an adult who can wait in the clinic while you’re undergoing surgery and who can drive you home afterwards.
- It takes several hours for you to feel back to your normal self so patients should not drive or operate any machinery for 12 hours after their appointment.
- If you have any questions or concerns then please ask us. We want all of our patients to be fully informed and comfortable in order that we can provide them with the best possible care.
