Does the ‘ Teeth In A Day’ Process Really Take Just One Day

When it comes to dental implants, in Richmond there are several types. Firstly there’s the conventional type of dental implants which most people know, and then there’s an increasingly popular process known as ‘Teeth In A Day’. However as the name implies, can you really have brand new dental implants in just one day? Let’s take a look.

dental implants in RichmondWhile it’s perfectly true that failing teeth can be removed, and dental implants and crowns fitted in just one day, there’s a lot of planing that goes on before this can happen. Yes, a patient can walk in to a clinic with problem or missing teeth and walk out with a restored healthy smile on the same day, but the whole process from initial consultation through to the end result may take a few months.

So what are the stages?

Firstly the initial consultation

This is usually the first time you’ll meet the dental team and they can discuss your needs and of course whether you’re suitable for the procedure. The bone density and mass is checked in your mouth via a 3D X-ray and if everything looks good then a full treatment plan will be drafted up and given to you.

First impressions

The next stage of the treatment is to take detailed dental impressions of your mouth. This forms a permanent record of how your teeth appear at the start of the treatment. These impressions are then sent to the dental lab for initial diagnostic work.

Bite assessment

Once the initial diagnostic work has been carried out you’ll need to be checked for bite. In this instance a bite-block fashioned from dental wax is cast to fit over any empty spaces in your teeth. This is then sent back to the dental lab.

The mock up

Once the bite has accurately been recorded a set of mock teeth will be made. This is where you get the opportunity to discuss colour shading, or to even move teeth around slightly if you want. Finally when you’re totally happy, then we’ll book the final ‘Teeth In A Day’ appointment, where you’ll eventually walk out with your new permanent teeth.
