How to get new teeth that behave like your old teeth
What everyone wants from replacement teeth is to be able to have them look, feel and act just like the much loved teeth they have lost. They need to look realistic, they need to be able to bite and chew properly and they need to feel like teeth in the mouth and not a contraption.
The best way to get all of the above is with dental implants in Richmond from us at Sheen Dental Implants.
What are dental implants in Richmond?
Dental implants are replacement teeth that are embedded into the jawbone. The embedded part is a tapered screw or post. This is inserted into a carefully sited and drilled channel. Once in place, the implant, which is made of titanium, catalyses new bone tissue growth all over it. Over the course of the next several weeks, bone and implant become fused together, making the implant as securely anchored (albeit in a different way) as a tooth root. It can now withstand chewing and biting forces of up to 97kg or 200lbs, which is more pressure than most people exert.
The implants have an internal screw and a connecting piece called an abutment goes into this. Handmade porcelain crowns are then fitted onto the abutment.
Each dental implant can hold up to 3 crowns on a bridge, so there is no need to have one implant for every lost tooth. Indeed, we have a technique called All-on-4 that allows us to use extra-long implants along the jawbone, along with 2 normal-length ones at the front. Between them they can support an entire arch of teeth.
Got loose dentures?
Another great technique is to use dental implants in Richmond to stabilise loose dentures. Dentures come loose because the bone and gum beneath them shrink. Having dental implants inserted and your dentures customised to fit onto them means you will once again be able to eat whatever you like and you will never have to worry about embarrassing wobbly teeth. You can still take your dentures out at night to clean them and to rest your gums.
