Loose dentures? Here’s how dental implants can help

Loose or poorly-fitting dentures can make your life a misery. At Sheen Dental in Richmond, we offer denture stabilisation using dental implants. This is a highly effective method of ensuring that your teeth stay exactly where they should be at all times, meaning that you can get back to enjoying life.

loose-denturesModern dentures are highly realistic in terms of both appearance and function, yet many people still experience problems with their fit. One of the major reasons behind these issues is that, when the tooth roots are missing, the jaw bone begins to resorb or shrink back. This means that a once well-fitting denture can become looser and looser over time.

Ill-fitting dentures can cause a range of problems, including:

  • Difficulty speaking clearly
  • A restricted diet, often limited to soft foods
  • Sore gums where the denture rubs the soft tissue
  • Not smiling or laughing in company for fear of dentures falling out
  • Restrictions on social life

If you are experiencing any of these common problems, denture stabilisation using dental implants could just be the perfect solution. At Sheen Dental in Richmond our implant work is carried out by leading implant dentist Dr Harmit Kalsi, who welcomes denture sufferers for consultations.

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots, which are placed in direct contact with your jaw bone in a minor oral surgical procedure, carried out here at our Richmond practice. They will gradually mesh with your jaw bone over the next few months, in a process known as osseointegration.

Implants serve a dual purpose: they hold your dentures securely in place, and also help to prevent bone loss. They are made from titanium, which is supportive of bone growth, and highly compatible with the human body.

Sheen Dental in Richmond offers a procedure called Same Day Teeth, which is often suitable for patients who wear dentures. This treatment option sees your dentist place the required number of implants (usually between four and six) in your jaw and attach provisional new teeth at the same appointment. Your permanent new teeth will be fitted after osseointegration is complete. We will discuss your suitability for this treatment at your initial consultation.
