Stabilising dentures with dental implants for a permanent solution to tooth loss

Dentures have been used for many centuries – since the time of the ancient Etruscans in the 7th Century BC, in fact – to replace missing teeth. The modern versions offered by Sheen Dental Implants in Richmond are a great deal more realistic in terms of both action and appearance than their primitive cousins. However, to fully enjoy the benefits of modern dentures, we recommend stabilising them with dental implants.

A shrinking jaw bone is the main reason that traditional dentures become loose. When the tooth roots are missing for a considerable period of time, the jaw bone begins to resorb (shrink back). This in turn alters the fit of your dentures.

Choosing denture stabilisation with dental implants at our Richmond clinic is an excellent way to avoid this, or to reverse it if it has already started happening.

Loose dentures can make your life a misery, affecting your ability to eat a healthy diet, changing how you speak, and having a devastating impact on your social life. At our Richmond clinic we find that implants are an excellent solution to all of these problems.

Furthermore, if you have already suffered bone loss and are currently struggling on with your dentures, our Richmond implant dentist can perform an additional procedure – a bone graft or a sinus lift – to rebuild the density of your jaw bone.

Richmond denture stabilisation

The denture stabilisation process at our Richmond clinic works like this: First, your dentist places between four and eight implants per jaw. This will be enough to support a full arch denture.

Your dental implants will be left to heal for a few months, during which you can usually wear your old denture after it has been adjusted.

Once the integration process is complete, your permanent dentures will be fitted. You can still take them out easily to clean them, but otherwise they’ll remain firmly in your mouth.
