Stabilising dentures with dental implants to give you back your freedom
Dentures are a popular method of replacing missing teeth, but many denture-wearers experience problems as their teeth become loose. At Sheen Dental in Richmond we offer denture stabilisation using dental implants, which is an effective solution to many common denture woes.
Dental implants are different to other tooth replacement options. For a start, they are the only permanent way to replace your missing teeth, designed to last your for many years – in a lot of cases, they may even last a lifetime.
The second key point to remember about dental implants is that they are the only way to replace the tooth roots. When tooth roots are missing, the jaw bone starts to shrink back or resorb, and the gums may also recede. This is the main cause of loose-fitting dentures and the associated difficulties they can cause with eating anything but soft foods, with speaking clearly and confidently, and with your self-esteem if they get so loose that they fall out.
By using implants to support and stabilise your dentures, you will notice significant improvements in their function. Holding your teeth firmly in position, implants enable you to eat whatever you want without problem, to speak clearly, and to get on with enjoying your social life without the fear of your dentures falling out at the worst possible moment.
Richmond denture stabilisation
At Sheen Dental in Richmond, we welcome patients interested in stabilising their dentures to join us for a consultation. Our skilled implant surgeon, Dr Harmit Kalsi, will conduct a thorough examination and draw up a bespoke treatment plan.
If you have already experienced some bone loss, you may need a bone graft prior to implant placement. Dr Kalsi can carry out the procedure here in the comfort of our Richmond practice to set you off on your implant journey.
Between two and six implants are placed in your jaw and left to heal for two-three months. You can still wear your dentures during healing, and will be called back to our Richmond clinic at the end of the process so they can be attached to the implants.
