What Can I Do To Replace My Missing Front Teeth?
Here at Sheen Dental one of our skills is placing dental implants in Richmond and we’ve used these successfully to help many people solve their problem of missing front teeth. When a patient has suffered an unfortunate accident or has had to have their front teeth removed it’s never an easy situation. Firstly because they’ve lost two natural teeth that they can never get back, but secondly because the gap is more visible and therefore most patients feel extremely self-conscious.
So what options does a patient have?
Dental Bridges
One option might be a dental bridge. The advantages are that it’s a non-surgical procedure and can be fitted within a day. This means that a patient can walk in minus two front teeth and exit the clinic an hour or so later with 2 natural looking prosthetic teeth. The disadvantages however also need to be considered. Firstly for a bridge to be attached it needs the support of nearby adjacent teeth which have to be ground down and shaped to house the framework. Ultimately it means that these otherwise healthy teeth are now at risk as they’ll be more prone to tooth problems in the future. In addition they’re also having to support the ceramic central tooth or teeth that fill the gap and as such will have to bear this extra load continuously, therefore placing excess stress on them.
Dental implants
If you’re looking for a flexible (and in most cases a permanent) option then you might want to consider a dental implant. In Richmond at Sheen Dental we talk through all options with patients including individual implants or an implant supported bridge. The main disadvantages of dental implants are that it involves a surgical procedure plus recovery time so it isn’t a process that can be carried out in just one day. Secondly for a variety of reasons it’s also the most expensive option. That said, the advantages that dental implants have over their counterparts far outweigh the disadvantages.
- Firstly as they’re attached directly into the jaw bone, they support themselves and therefore don’t rely on any help from adjoining teeth. This means that any nearby healthy teeth remain intact.
- Secondly as they’re permanently affixed, either as individual implants or as an implant supporting bridge, they offer the end user far more stability when they eat, meaning that they can happily crunch away on that crisp apple, or chew on some lean meat without fear of any crowns coming loose.
Whatever you decide, the good news is that you don’t have to suffer with missing teeth as there are options open to you.
