Why Do Dental Implant Prices Vary So Much?
If you compare prices for dental implants in Richmond per say, you might be surprised to note that there are major variations. Although it might seem upon first glance that these figures are simply plucked out of the air, they are in fact calculated using a number of criteria. To give you a better idea of how it works, let’s take a further look at what can affect the pricing structure of dental implants.
Type of implant used
It’s fair to say that not all implants are created equally! In fact, there are over 150 different makes and models on the market and some are considerably cheaper than others. Premium brand implants for example are at the high end of the scale. These are made by companies such as Nobel Biocare, Straumann and 3M ESPE who have been in the implant industry for a many years. They spend millions of dollars/pounds/euros testing and honing their implants until they’re the best that they can be.
At the other end of the scale you’ve got newcomers who have only been manufacturing dental implants for a short while. They don’t have the financial clout of the larger companies and as such will often advertise their implants cheaper in order to try and attract attention and sales from dental clinics. This is not to say that if you’re undergoing a dental implant in Richmond and the dentist is using a premium implant you’re guaranteed success. It just means that the implant fitted will be of the highest quality.
Practice overheads
The overheads of the dental practice will also have to be factored into the final price. For instance, overheads in central London are going to be far higher than those in more rural areas. Therefore this is likely to be reflected in the cost.
Treatment needed
Because every patient has different needs implant surgery is considered a bespoke service. One patient for example might have ample bone for an implant to be fitted straight into, while another may need bone grafting procedures before implants can be placed. This will obviously add to the cost.
The type of abutment
There are two main styles of abutment known as pre-fabricated and customised. They can be fashioned from a variety of materials. Pre-fabricated abutments are cheaper than their customised cousins and this means that price comes into play here also. Visible teeth might benefit from Zirconia abutments which are usually more expensive than the titanium variety because of their natural looking appearance, but again, this will have cost implications.
The type of crown used
Finally there’s the crown. These also come in a variety of materials including porcelain and Zirconia and again, will vary in price accordingly.
As you can see, there are a number of factors that can affect the price of dental implant surgery and we haven’t even talked about the skills and training of the surgeon performing the procedure. Nevertheless it does pay to shop around and do your homework, before you commit. One thing’s for sure though…get it right and you’ll have a set of dental implants that you’ll be proud of and that will last you many years to come.
